I know right? I’m as shocked as you to be honest.
What happened was that I got given a nice bag of weed back in April, and started treating myself to a wee smoke every morning for a month or so. While I was a daily pot smoker for most of my adult life, I gave up smoking it back in 2017, but it was thoroughly enjoyable to get a little stoned every morning for a bit.
And much to my surprise, I started receiving song ideas on practically a daily basis. Really good ideas too! Determined not to waste them I began putting aside a bit of time before work to do some writing, and the upshot of this was that with a month or two I had an album’s worth of new material ready to go.
I had planned to do a follow-up to The Gathering Tide album released in 2016, another album built around the acoustic guitar. But life had other plans and these songs were insistent on taking another direction entirely, so what I’m actually doing now is recording an album under The Snow Ponies banner, full of electric guitars, synths and mellotrons.
I’ve got three tracks finished that have just been mastered, and they’re going to be released as singles between October-December 2025. The first one, Giving It All Away, is tentatively planned for mid-October – I’m just waiting on a friend to finalise some artwork images for me.
The rest of the songs are still under construction, and I’m hoping to get them all finished before the year is out.
